In Celtic symbolism knots had many different meanings: from signifying clans and family heritage, to expressing ties between human, animal and the spiritual spheres. Celtic knots, and so called knot tattoos also demonstrate a sense of continuity. According to common myths these figures have neither beginning nor end. The ancient Celts, especially the druids, had a keen sense of life and the afterlife and inherently understood the eternally cyclical nature. Nowadays knots are considered to be a common motif for family or friendly relations. They are usually chosen both by men and by women and can be arranged at any part of the body.
